Bitsy games are a good example that hyperrealism isn't needed in order to make beautiful graphics. The game isn't a sweeping narrative about saving the universe but rather about dealing with grief. It's a very gentle story despite the melancholy and sorrow that permeates throughout it. I also found it interesting how the player needs to press the buttons themself in order to progress the story forward such as the scene with the train. The train doesn't move on its own until the player wills it. I feel like that's an interesting thing it put and I interpret it as the author saying something about the passage of time and moving on.
The sound design and music is impressive. It manages to convey two completely different tones well with the cheery, optimistic music at the beginning and cloying claustrophobia towards the middle. The text effects such as the wavy one was also utilized well to give a feeling of nausea and anxiety. My personal favorite bit was when the avatar was stuck in a room and as they went towards the middle of it, the edges of the room started to close in on them. Even if you went back the room stayed in its new constricted dimensions. An apt visual metaphor for anxiety.
